In a vibrant ceremony in Lagos over the weekend, renowned maritime lawyer Dr. Emeka Akabogu marked his 50th birthday by unveiling two groundbreaking books on maritime law and policy.
Esteemed figures from Nigeria’s maritime and petroleum sectors gathered to applaud Dr. Akabogu’s substantial contributions, praising his work ethic and industry impact.
The event featured an engaging inter-university debate between the University of Lagos and Lagos State University, accompanied by the presentation of awards to winners of the inaugural Dr. Emeka Akabogu Maritime Writing Challenge, aptly named “DREAM WRICH.”
Addressing the attendees, Dr. Akabogu expressed his commitment to giving back to the maritime industry and nurturing future talent. He emphasized the need for a robust intellectual foundation.
“To take advantage of its potentials, the maritime industry needs to activate a range of high value multiplier initiatives concurrently, driven by a strong, industry-grounded intellectual core. Without that, it would be impossible. The young persons we are encouraging are the seeds of that core for tomorrow”, he said.
Distinguished personalities in attendance included Babatunde Jimoh (Director of Maritime Services, Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy), Dr. Bashir Jamoh (Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency), Mohammed Bello Koko (Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority), Mr. Sonny Eja (President, Shipowners Association of Nigeria), Mr. Emenike Nwokeoji (President, Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents), Alhaji Aminu Umar (President, Nigerian Chamber of Shipping), Engr.
