Oyo/Osun Customs Command intercepts 2,290 pieces of used Tyres
Oyo/Osun Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has unveiled the interception of 2,290 pieces of used tyres along Saki area of Oyo State.
The Customs Area Controller of the command, Dr Ben Oramalugo, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
He said that the command intercepted the contrabands which were concealed in DAF trucks, during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted on Monday.
Part of the statement read: “The seizure is part of the command’s ongoing efforts to curtail the smuggling of prohibited items into the country, enhancing public safety and promoting the integrity of the Nigerian economy.
“Upon inspection, the tyres were found hidden in a DAF truck in an attempt to evade detection by law enforcement officers,” he said.
Oramalugo pointed out that importation and smuggling of used tyres into the country is illegal and pose significant safety risks to the citizens of the country.
