Non Trading Nigeria Flagged Vessels Litter Port of Port Harcourt

Of the 24 vessels which called at the Port of Port-Harcourt today, March 29, 2024, 16 are flagged Nigeria and non is a trading vessel.

 

 

Automatic Identification System (AIS) report by VesselFinder.com shows that of the 16 Nigeria flagged vessels, 2 are passenger vessels, 5 are tug boats, 3 are security and patrol vessels, 1 is a utility vessel and 5 are uncategorized.

 

 

More details from the report show that 7 of the 8 other vessel not flagged Nigeria are trading vessels while the final 1, MV PRESIDO, is a passenger vessels flagged Tanzania.

 

The trading vessels are; GOLDEN LAVENDER, a chemical and oil product tankers flagged Hong Kong; UNISCOUT and HC OPAL both general cargo vessels flagged Antigua and Barbuda; AMAR MERAY, a general cargo vessel flagged Belize; AFRICAN HARRIER, a bulk carrier flagged Bahamas; and ENFORD, a chemical and oil product tanker flagged Marshall Island.

 

 

 

Asides SURFER 2624 and ARCO FCB which are passenger vessels flagged Nigeria, the other 14 are as follows;

 

  • 5 tug (QUEEN JAY, KATHERINE, MV SOUTH PARK, MV HUDSON ELIK, ATLANTIC BRIGAND and MV ADERINSOLA)
  • 3 security and patrol vessels (MV SEINA 3, SVS TEACH and MV ESCORT 4)
  • 5 uncategorized vessels (SURFER 2605, SURFER 2624, CONFIDENCE 2, MV ESCORT and WHISKY STAR)

 

The report highlights Nigeria’s lack of competitiveness in shipping trade within her shores, the security risks uncategorized vessels may pose to the port environment and coastal communities and Nigeria’s port sector outlook in the comity of Maritime nations.
