Nigerian Maritime Industry Leaders to Meet at MARAN Roundtable This Thursday
Nigerian Maritime industry stakeholders are gearing up for a crucial roundtable discussion on the contentious International Cargo Tracking Note (ICTN), recently reintroduced by the Federal Government.
The event, organized by the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), is scheduled for Thursday, February 27, 2025, at MARAN Secretariat, Apapa GRA, Lagos.
Key industry players, including the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), are expected to present papers on the ICTN.
Additionally, representatives from the Shippers’ Association of Lagos State, Importers’ Association of Nigeria, Sea Empowerment Research Centre, and the Managing Director of Widescope Group, Dr. Segun Musa, will be present to analyse the presentations and propose solutions for the smooth implementation of the policy.
Speaking on the significance of the roundtable, MARAN President, Godfrey Bivbere, emphasized the need to resolve the lingering controversies surrounding the reintroduction of the ICTN.
“Since the announcement of ICTN’s reintroduction, there has been intense debate between its proponents and opponents, each defending their stance.
“The issue has polarized the maritime sector, and as Nigeria’s leading maritime beat association, MARAN is stepping in to bring all stakeholders together for a constructive dialogue. This will help us move forward and foster growth in a sector vital to our national economy,” Bivbere stated.
Invited speakers and stakeholders have confirmed their participation, expressing readiness to shed light on the subject to bridge existing knowledge and information gaps.
