Chukwuma was honoured alongside 16 other high profile personalities across several industries as part of activities to mark the United Nations International Day of People of African Descent which is celebrated globally on 31 August.

This year’s celebration, put together by the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) in Lagos-Nigeria (a United Nations recognised non governmental organisation) represents an acknowledgement of the roles of Africans within Africa and in diaspora towards world development.

Recall that in the recent past, Chukwuma, in his capacity as Deputy National President (Seaport) at NAGAFF, has mediated disputes between freight forwarders and agencies in the sector leading to amicable conflict resolution birthing seamless working relationships between stakeholders.

Speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the event on the importance of peace towards catalyzing progress, Chukwuma said: “Peace is the vehicle through which we can achieve growth and stability in society and without peace you cannot have any meaningful progress.

“I have given been given an award as an Eminent Peace Ambassador. I never knew people would one day take note of some of the little contributions we’ve made to society.”

Speaking on the selection process of the honorees the National Secretary IAWPA, Amb. Chi Jenny Ugboaja, noted that the recipients were chosen following a rigorous process of nomination, screening and interviews before they are qualified to take up the role of honorary International Ambassadors of Peace.

Challenged by the responsibility of this new position, Chukwuma pledged to keep up the good work of peace keeping within the Maritime industry where he practices as a professional.
