In a pioneering move for the industry, the Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has concluded plans to celebrate its past presidents, whose dedication and sacrifices have been instrumental in transforming the association into a powerhouse of maritime journalism.
This was announced in a joint statement issued by the Chairman of MARAN’s Caretaker Committee, Tunde Ayodele, and the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Funso Olojo. The event is scheduled to hold at the Rockview Hotel, Apapa, on 24 April 2026, at 3:00 pm.
Mr Ayodele disclosed that invitations have been extended to friends, associates, and well-wishers of the honourees to participate in this epoch-making event.
While expressing sadness over the demise of four of the association’s former leaders, Ayodele confirmed they would be recognised with posthumous awards for their invaluable contributions.
He further revealed that the families of the deceased have been invited to grace the occasion in their stead.
“As an organisation that values the contributions of its leaders, MARAN is celebrating its past presidents for their vision, passion, and resilience in the face of daunting challenges,” Ayodele declared. “It is their tenacity of purpose that has shaped this association into the foremost and most formidable group of journalists in the maritime industry.”
He added that the timing of the event is particularly auspicious, following the professional elevation of a former President, Dr Bolaji Akinola, who was recently appointed Special Adviser on Communications to the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
“The career advancement of Dr Bolaji Akinola gladdens our hearts at MARAN. There is no better platform than this ceremony to express our appreciation to the Honourable Minister for finding one of our own worthy of such a high-level appointment,” the Caretaker Chairman enthused.
