IAWPA Lauds Ambassador May Yul-Edochie’s Philanthrophic Outreach to Makoko Community
The International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) have lauded the philanthropic outreach of Ambassador May Yul-Edochie to the people of Makoko Community, Lagos State.
The outreach was part of activities to mark Yul-Edochie’s 39th birthday also doubling as the second year anniversary of the May Oasis Foundation, an organisation she officially launched in 2022.
Representing IAWPA, the National Secretary IAWPA, Ambassador Dr. Chinaza Jenny Ugboaja, congratulated May Yul-Edochie for exemplifying the principles which guide IAWPA and being a beacon of hope to vulnerable members of society at such a critical time in the nation’s economy.
Ugboaja while speaking with journalists at the sidelines of the event noted that the act is a demonstration of Ambassador Yul-Edochie’s commitment to service, a lesson in patriotism and a contribution towards making the world a more peaceful place.
Her words: “I am standing here on behalf of the International Association of World Peace Advocates. Ambassador May Yul -Edochie is an embodiment of the ideals of IAWPA and this gesture further affirms that.
“I remember when she was interviewed as part of the screening process for the Ambassadorial role, she said that she had founded the May Oasis Foundation to touch the hearts of the needy and take care of widows.
“At IAWPA, we believe in experience and today we are here to testify to her work as a philanthropist and commend her for this.”
On her part May Yul -Edochie popularly known as Queen May, shared that the decision to start a foundation was born from a personal experience and a decision to positively impact the lives of vulnerable persons in society.
Part of items distributed at the outreach yesterday include; over 150 pieces of 2kg bags of rice, over 18 cartons of 5 litre kegs of groundnut oil, empowerment of 10 young women with training and a seed sum of N250,000 each to start shampoo making businesses and scholarships for 10 young women to learn fashion at an indigenous high end fashion brand in Lagos (Trish O’ Couture).
Speaking on the outreach, May Yul-Edochie said: “This foundation was birthed as a result of the unprecedented circumstances around my life two years ago. That gave birth to what we are doing here today.
“As IAWPA Ambassadors, we preach peace. A hungry man is an angry man. So, I am here with well meaning friends to distribute food items as well as empower women. When people eat, they are filled up, they are happy. Their energy level towards negative actions drop.
“There is a soap making session taking place right now and after it, we would pick about 10 women and empower them with N250,000 each so that they can start their own businesses.
“When someone is working, he or she can take care of himself or herself and his/her family and there is peace in the home. It reduces the ideas of vice and depression.”
May Oasis Foundation was supported to execute this project by Trish O’ Couture; Misiano Skincare; Actress Nuella Njubigbo; Olympic champion, Chioma Ajunwa; amongst a host of other private sponsors.
