Comptroller Onyeka Hosts Muslim Community to Iftar to Mark 100th Day in Office

The Customs Area Controller, Tin Can Island Port Customs Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Frank Okechukwu Onyeka, hosted an Iftar dinner for the port Muslim community at the Command on Wednesday, February 27, 2025.

 

This event, which also doubled as his 100th day in office, was a part of ongoing efforts to foster strong relationships and cooperation with stakeholders.

In his address, the CAC expressed his honor in hosting the Muslim community and the armed forces, emphasizing the importance of partnership in driving national progress. “I came with a mandate to generate revenue, and I know you’ve all been very supportive. But like Oliver Twist, I ask for more of that support,” he remarked.

 

In response, the Tin Can Island Port Command Chapter Chairman of the Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logisticians of Nigeria (APFFLON), Comrade Akeem Ayobiojo, thanked Comptroller Onyeka for the gesture.

 

He commended the impressive achievements of the CAC in his first 100 days, expressing confidence that these successes would continue.

 

The Directorate of State Security (DSS), TCIP, Akhun Sule, who was represented by Mr Salihu Madaki also commended the initiative while wishing the CAC a successful tenure.

Deputy Comptroller S.O. Ariyibi of the Command’s Administration division emphasizing the significance of the gathering, said: “Dining together symbolizes love and strengthens relationships. The Tin Can Island Port Command has seen positive changes, and we hope everyone will be part of this progress.”

After the dinner, Comrade Ayobiojo expressed his admiration for Comptroller Onyeka’s leadership, highlighting the remarkable strides made in such a short time.

 

He encouraged Onyeka to continue with his efforts in stakeholder engagement and trade facilitation while urging stakeholders to make honest declarations.

In an interview, Comptroller Onyeka shared the importance of building good relationships across ethnic and religious lines.

 

He expressed gratitude for the support he has received from stakeholders, saying, “My record board is smiling because of the efforts of the stakeholders who make my job easier. I strongly believe that nothing can be achieved without God’s guidance, and His presence has been evident in all our activities.”

As he marked his 100th day in office, Onyeka explained that hosting the Iftar was a way to show appreciation for the support he has received from the Muslim community during Ramadan while reiterated his commitment to balancing trade facilitation with national interests, stressing that any activities against the nation’s interests would not be tolerated.
