The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has officially welcomed Comptroller Benedict Oramalugo, PhD, as its new Customs Area Controller, following the retirement of his predecessor.
Comptroller Oramalugo, a seasoned officer with an impressive track record, formally assumed duty on February 11, 2025, at the ECOWAS complex of the Seme-Krake Joint Border Post (JBP).
A brief and symbolic handing-over ceremony, attended by journalists and key stakeholders, marked the transition. Deputy Comptroller Enforcement, DC Istifanus D. Musa, who had been overseeing the Command in an acting capacity, handed over the reins to Comptroller Oramalugo, assuring him of the unwavering support and cooperation of officers of the Command.
In his inaugural address, Comptroller Oramalugo expressed his appreciation for the dedication of the officers and stakeholders of the Command, reiterating his commitment to strengthening border security, facilitating legitimate trade, and implementing the policy thrust of the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.
He emphasized the need for continuous capacity building among officers and maintained that his administration would be guided by an open-door policy to foster transparency and efficiency.
“I am here to build on the solid foundation laid by my predecessors and to ensure that we align with the vision of the Comptroller General in promoting trade facilitation, border security, and revenue generation,” Oramalugo stated.
He also took a moment to express gratitude to the CGC and the NCS Management for the opportunity to serve in various leadership roles, vowing to bring his wealth of experience to bear in advancing the objectives of the Service at Seme.
Prior to this appointment, Comptroller Oramalugo served as the Customs Area Controller of the Oyo/Osun Command, where he made significant strides in revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations.
His exceptional performance earned him multiple accolades in December 2024, including the Strategic Community Engagement for the Year award, Service Excellence Performance award, and the Outstanding Controller of the Year 2024 at the CGC’s Award ceremony.
